Inver House Blended Scotch – Review

Inver House Blended ScotchInver House Green Plaid Very Rare Scotch Whisky

80 Proof

Price Point: $5 – $15 for 750 ML

Distiller: Barton Imports

Background

Sometimes you have to drink cheap, right?  You can’t always open that $80 bottle of Scotch.  There are certainly inexpensive whiskeys worth drinking (Evan Williams and Benchmark come to mind), and others that should be avoided (Ten High, anyone?).

A whiskey can be cheap for any number of different reasons – inexpensive ingredients/aging techniques or being a domestic product with limited shipping expense.  Sometimes it’s not the quality of the whiskey at all, but the price point that the market demands.  Inver House Blended Scotch is a very cheap whisky.  Does that mean it lacks quality?

Review

On the nose, Inver House starts out heavy on the high notes, much like a Canadian whisky.  It’s simple and light, but develops veiled caramel and a hint of malt over time.

This whisky certainly has a better taste than nose.  Inver House is creamy with subtle peat.  There’s a little fruit there, with an even mixture of malt and grainy flavors.  The taste is very simple but surprisingly drinkable.

There are apples on the brief finish, with a touch of malt.

Rating & Recommendations

Inver House is a so-so Scotch whisky, earning a 75 out of 100.

This is further proof that sometimes you get what you pay for.  Again, this is a surprisingly drinkable whisky, but also one you may want to use for guilt-free cocktail experimentation.

      Hi Joanie.

Where are you located? It’s always difficult to say where you can find certain whiskeys without knowing what state (or country) you are in.

You can find it on just about any military base, the name of the store is the class 6.

    1. I don’t know where you live, state and county but it’s not out of production. Ask your
Local distributors where they could order it. Every distributor in Kansas City has it available. From $9.99 to $12.99 for 750 mil
      The 1.75liter is 1750mil for $19.99 that’s free 200mil at that price.. 2 m-750 mil is 1500mil,,,-200mil less than a 1.75 literwhich is same price. 9.99 x 2 is $19.98
      (Did my homework😀)
I would love to know the spices it’s made with because it has a very distinct flavor and it comes in on the front of a drink and lasts throughout the experience. After tasting it you will agree the 50-70 dollar bottles of single malt scotch are charging to much. Scotch lovers if they would only taste it will agreee its very worth it especially after the first taste. I believe it’s worth it even though it’s cheap. After people start tasting it they will never spend 50-60 dollars a bottle. There is one draw back to that taste. After sampling that demand will greatly grow and then supply and demand will exaggerate the prices. Get it while you can before it comes the rage of rare scotch fanciers. Mark my words, I am not one who would falsely report this flavor. If you lived close to me and got a bottle of it and weren’t satisfied I would buy the the remainder of your bottle and drink it for you. I am that impressed by it. Get it while it’s cheap. In fact buy two or three cases of it for future enjoyment. I am not affiliated with them and have nothing to gain by exaggerating. Nothing in it for me but to tell others it’s value in taste. In fact I was reluctant to tell this story so I can get it cheap until prices escalate. Just oasssing along a great taste to share with scotch lovers. Nuff said because I love bargains that taste this good. Peace Out, hope you at least same this great flavor. I’m not a paid advertiser I am just spreading the quality to help people save money and not sacrifice flavor.. it says extremely rare scotch and it’s true. Since it was created in 1964 and not 1773 or earlier these spices had to passed down from master craft distillers. THAT HAS TO CONTINUE, SOMEONES Grand Daddy passed this recipe DOWN after he was gone, HE DIDNT WANT IT TO BE FORGOTTEN. TRADITIONS NEED TO BE PRESERVED SO THEY WONT BE LOST FOREVER…..
A tradition that needs to be passed down to future generations for enjoyment. This a craft Premium Scotch “ART WHISKEY” that is worth keeping alive for future generations……..
—-On my mother’s grave I am not lying. It’s that good trust me.. it’s smooth and easy sipping for Sports gatherings or just getting home and sipping under a warm fire for enjoyment 😊—–.
It’s says BERY RARE SCOTCH WHIKEY BLEND and they seriously mean it. (I’m not a paid actor, I’m a hometown boy that would not lie to a brother) ENJOY / SERIOUSLY……..
THE SPICES SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES, JUST TRY IT YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED..

I have bought many different brands even the single malt scotches but i always come back to my favorite, Inver House.
it is certainly a low cost drink but i am not sure why.

Definitely as advertised on bottle. Smooth for sure, rare eh!?!? Not 100% on that ☝🏻. It is very affordable and easily drinkable. Beyond that I have no idea, I’m sure they use copper in the distilling process. Better than paddies, pot distilled sounds interesting but the inevitable outcome will result in the shlits at best case scenario. This one, though cheap, has not caused the rumbly in the tummy as of yet. So as for the grade from an experienced drunk of fine scotches, keep your single malt 90$ bottles and pass me the overs house, cheers 🥃.

I usually drink top shelf single malt scotch. My preference is a good Islay. This Inver house was just a random purchase to try something new. Honestly it is quite drinkable. Very subtle with a hint of apple. Not bad at all if you are ok losing the deep oak tastes.

Lmao. I love scotch. My brother in law got me hooked a few years back. We go on cruises and buy the good stuff no taxes. I’ve always laughed at him drinking Inver House in a plastic bottle for everyday drinking and saving the good stuff. I was at my buddy’s house and he had some scotch in one of those fancy glass decanters on he’s bar with scotch in it. It was awesome! I asked him what it was, he couldn’t recall the name. Me and the wife went out to eat with him the other night and he said he had found the scotch I was drinking and he bought me an bottle, and it was outside in the car. When he handed it to me I busted out laughing. You got to be kidding me! This is it? Yep. It was a plastic bottle of Inver House. Lmao. I took it home. Still laughing. I told my wife there’s no way that was the scotch I had at his house. I never drink it when I’m at the brother in laws. I drink the good stuff we buy on the ship. One night I came in from the shop and found I was out of everything I had, and the only thing I had was that damn plastic bottle. Lol. To make a long story short. That’s my new drink. I love it! The damnest thing. Who would have ever known. Very smooth. Not oaky, which I don’t like. It awesome stuff. The plastic bottle still freaked me out. Lol. Never judge a book by its cover. Two thumbs up. I still haven’t told the bother in law…lol..

As a bartender all through college as-well-as a single malt and blended scotch drinker for over 40 years, I’ve had a taste of about all that’s out there. Single malt is undoubtedly my favorite (Glenfiddich), but when it comes to a good blended whisky, Inver House holds its own in taste and price. I love it in hot tea with sugar or as a toddy in hot water with a good dose of ground ginger and sweetener.

  2. I’ve enjoyed Inver House over the years: very smooth, slight but noticeable smoke, light on the pallet, with a sort of citrus note. Inexpensive and drinkable.

I enjoy Inver House as my everyday scotch, and when entertaining guests serve Johnny Walker Black. The closest mid-range blended scotch in taste is J & B, followed by Dewar’s. I think my taste in scotch was formed in my college days, more by seeing what the VIPs and professionals were drinking, and looking forward to it as a mark of seemingly upper middle-class distinction. I am 67 and when I was in college at Holy Cross in the late 1960s and early 70s, the Jesuit priests (I worked in their dining hall) favored Chivas Regal, for themselves and their donors/trustee guests, although Pinch was a close second. Never acquired what I call the road tar/wet cigarette butt taste of the single malts. On the other hand, I once paid something like $50 for a Johnny Walker Blue on the rocks and it tasted like, well “nothing.” Extremely smooth so you could do half a fifth before you realized you were hammered.

I just tried it because it went on sale at the county liquor store, the price was right, and I am experimenting with cheap scotch because I was terminated due to COVID. Just finished a dram in in Glen Cairn glass (toughest test I know) and it held up surprisingly well. There are some subtle, interesting flavors. I’m not going to give up more expensive blended and single malt scotch, but Inver House holds its own against some more expensive scotches. On the rocks is where I think it belongs, which is also my preferred way to drink scotch. Glad that I won’t have to choke it down like other cheap scotches or have the temptation to pore it down the drain like I did for Ballantine’s Finest. I wound up finishing it off making Bloody Mary Queen of Scotts drinks with it.

Had my first taste of it tonight. I was a bit leery — after all, this is high-inflation 2023 and I paid just $16.99/handle.

I mixed it with ginger ale, and down the hatch.

Well, you can add me to the fan club!

I still prefer Canadian whisky overall (Windsor House is my fave — and yes, I’m a cheapskate), but Inver House will do. And real scotch, for that price? What a deal!

But that bottle…When I picked it up at the liquor store, my wife said, “You’re not buying *that*, are you? It’s gross.” I guess I’ll have to find a decanter to put it in.

    Cheers!
